I’ve said (like many callers before me) that square dancing is the art of dancing with hands.
Something that isn’t in our definitions, but probably should be, is that that every call can be made easier if you look into the eyes of the dancers around you. It makes teaching easier and it makes actual dancing easier.
Gentlemen, when you Courtesy Turn a Lady, look her in the eyes and let her know that you (yes, you!) are the one turning her.
Doing a Square Thru 4? Right pull by, then look for the eyes of the person to whom you will offer your Left hand.
Dixie Style to a Wave? Assuming the Ladies are leading (though, they don’t have to) those Ladies should look at each other, pull by with the right, then *look* at the eyes of the men that are waiting and then Left Touch 1/4.
It’s amazing how much easier it is to dance when you’re actively looking for the people in your square.
